. a great spoof of Apple's Switch campaign -- switch to become Canadian . This kept my sanity this morning, because --

--> here's something that is bugging the hell out of me: favicons. After spending the good part of my morning trying to get Safari to clear its favicon cache, I've given up. The old freeware Safari Icon Manager doesn't work with 1.0, and the /dir structure in the Library has changed [people say go here, but neither Library (root or user) contains this file to delete: ~/Library -> Caches -> com.apple.WebKit -> Icons ].

Moreover, everyone seems to have different ideas on whether Link tags are necessary. The confusion is massive for such a simple, little, dinky favicon. Apparently if the Link tags are used, they need to be used on every HTML page (!) -- but this isn't really HTML logic. So far I know I've got a favicon working at <ST> -- but I can only see it on my PC and only when a bookmark is made. Anyways, check out the varying reports on what to put in the head tag:

For the love of Zeus ... So here's what I've done. I've put this code in each index page of every /dir at the ST.projekt site & put the favicon in every /dir:

..as it seems to be the most thorough, and this is what is in the July ish of MacAddict [even though MacAddict doesn't have it in their /head tag -- whatever & they also put a typo.. the last line for them says "favicon.icov type [etc]" -- they put a 'v' instead of quotation marks, thus not closing the file & naming it incorrectly. Stupid.].

This means that when a link is created in IE 6 on my PC, the favicon shows -- but only when you create a link. Not automatically .. but this seems like the way it works on PC (even Google's "G" only shows up if you create a link, etc.).

Safari, however, seems hopeless. No amount of cache clearing & restarting seems to want it to recognise the code or the favicon. What a pain. Time to do something else -- I'm only splurging time after trying to understand contextual semes last night in time for IASPM.

p.s. -- if anyone has a fix for this...
